Caterers & Gamblers & Investors! Oh, my!

So far, 2007 has been a very exciting year: we have developed mobile campaigns for clients ranging from churches, trade shows, emergency disaster relief organizations, raceways and more. Each month Club Texting strives to inform you – the consumer – of the newest happenings and ideas in mobile marketing.

This month, we’d like to share some of the newest and most innovative industry ideas yet:

  • Caterers are now able to periodically contact past clients about upcoming available dates and offer incentives for referrals.
  • Financial Firms are adopting an immediate notification system for their investors and board members, alerting them of stock news, conference calls, annual reports and much more.
  • Gambling Tips via text message allow people to stay ahead of the game with to-the-minute updates sent directly to their phones. Agents can even password-protect their list in order to keep subscribers very selective.
  • Movie Theaters have the unique ability to reach a targeted, captive audience using on-screen promotions prior to showtime. The database they accrue is impeccable: a personal contact list of existing customers located within the proximity of the theater who are highly likely to return in the future.
  • Religious Leaders: Our August newsletter spotlighted one of our many Church clients. Now leaders can use our send-from-phone feature to send uplifting messages whenever they feel inspired to do so in the comfort of their own home, office, etc.
  • Salons have begun integrating a text messaging component into their customer appreciation programs, offering special discounts, in-store event invitations and appointment reminders.
  • Shopping Malls aren’t just for shopping anymore. Customers can now opt-in to enjoy ticket giveaways, concert invites, restaurant coupons and much more.
  • State Lotteries are spreading brand awareness to a younger demographic with text-to-win programs for ticket prizes and vacations.  
  • Taxis & Safe Ride Programs are adopting two-way text messaging systems to not only send out coupons and promotions for discounted fares but also provide customers a way to request a ride by simply sending a text message.
  • Universities: Virtually all universities have an emergency text alert system in place; however, recently we have seen a rise in University Student Associations and Dorms implementing a separate program just for campus event notifications and dorm announcements.
  • Wellness Centers often have membership-only classes covering a variety of topics. Instructors can now send periodic reminders and motivational messages to their group members.

iPhone Opens Up - SDK Coming In February
Apple's CEO posted another of his open letters to the world Wednesday on Apple's Hot News section of its Web site, confirming reports that a software development kit (SDK) for the iPhone will be released to developers next year. It's coming in Februrary, rather than January as reported, but application developers and iPhone owners will probably be able to wait the extra month.

New Study: 'Mobile Marketing Ready for Takeoff'
Major European brands are set to increase their mobile marketing, according to an Airwide Solutions-sponsored study by Vanson Bourne.

A High Def Billboard In Times Square That Interacts Via Short Codes
In addition to streaming news, the billboard will also provide viewers with a dedicated audio channel received via mobile phones by dialing a toll free number. Advertisers will have access to a standard feature set that includes Bluetooth downloads, interactive content via short code (SPECHD) and Times Square’s first free public WiFi Hot Spot.
