Club SaddleWant to take your texting program to the next level? Get your customers excited by creating an entire campaign around your texting "club". Give it an identity that is unique to your business. Announce upcoming texting promotions on your website and MySpace page to get the buzz started!  Western-styled bar Atomic Cowboy branded their texting program CLUB SADDLE, telling customers to "Join Club Saddle… your text connection to all things Cowboy."

Stay true to your identity in the messages you send out, too. Atomic Cowboy surprised one lucky Friday night customer with this message:  "Yee Haw...you R the 11pm winner. Please let your server know now...show us yer txt to claim yer prize. Thanks for joining Club Saddle."

Surf Expo Customer Spotlight

Objective:
DMG World Media is an international exhibition and publishing company that produces more than 300 market-leading trade exhibitions, consumer shows and fairs, including the ever-popular Surf Expo.

When Surf Expo decided it was time to raise the bar for communication with Expo attendees and exhibitors, they turned to Club Texting for a high-powered messaging solution.

Roy Turner, Client Relations Director for Surf Expo, worked with Club Texting to create an effective, cost-efficient communication program to offer their 16,000+ attendees and 1,000 exhibitors.

Solution:
To segment these groups, he chose to create two separate keywords: SURF EXPO for their attendees, and SURF for their exhibitors and industry contacts.

To obtain subscribers, an online website announcement was added a week before the Expo began:

During the event, exhibitors and attendees were given the opportunity to signup via:

  • On-site signage
  • Computer kiosks
  • HTML Email blast promotions
  • Daily newsletter
  • Print materials

Surf Expo pre-scheduled hourly update messages to be sent to attendees notifying them of “special events, autograph signings, special appearances, and more.” Some examples include:

  • Surf Expo Friday 10:00 - 11:00 Events :: Seminar Maximizing Profits Room s210a 10:00am ::Monster Wakeboard Rail Jam outside wake section.
  • Surf Expo - Friday:: enter to win an all-inclusive trip to Indy 500 or Brickyard 400 @ Lake Trash, wake booth #142!
  • Surf Expo Friday 12:00 - 1:00 Events:Enter to win an itBike now at Registration! Bike on the water ::Wakeboard Rail Jam

For their exhibitors, Surf Expo began sending messages one day prior to the start of the show. These included important reminders and information about deadlines. Ex: “Surf Expo Staff: $50 charge per badge for all badge changes after 7:00pm.”

Outcome:
Using the Club Texting system, Surf Expo reached their goals of “doing more to enhance your trade show experience.”  In addition to this, their exhibitors now have the opportunity to work through Surf Expo to reach this valuable attendee subscriber base with special offers in the future, and quite possibly even adopt a texting service for their own retail stores.

California Considers SMS Emergency Alert System
"All of the cellphones within range of those towers [on Catalina Island] would ring with an emergency message," says Lt. Gov. John Garamendi (D), describing the proposed cellular alert system, which could use text and voice messages. "Visitors as well as residents on the island who had cellphones, pagers, BlackBerrys, etc., would get the message."

Cellphones are now ubiquitous – outnumbering land lines in the US – making them an obvious part of any emergency alert system.

UK Domino's To Offer Pizza Via Text Message
Yes, if you get a passion for pepperoni when the pubs throw out, just go to your phone and send a message. Your pizza will then arrive from one of Dominos' 470 outlets just as you've dozed off in the armchair. There are a couple of safeguards - firstly, you'll need to register your full details online beforehand and you'll need to set up a 'favourite meals' list, which you can text to the shop. So texting 'hammered' could lead to a large pizza with extra cheese arriving at your door.

Kagan: U.S. Cell Phone Saturation May Spur Mobile Ad Rush
Research firm SNL Kagan released a 10-year wireless projection last week which predicts that by the year 2013, mobile phones--including consumer, business and dual users--will achieve 100% penetration in the U.S., when an estimated 322 million cell phone units in use will actually exceed the total U.S. population. Kagan estimates current U.S. cell phone penetration at 84%, or about 233 million units.
